Why Gina Rodriguez Is ‘Afraid' to Have a Second Baby Ahead of Son's 2nd Birthday: ‘I Already Feel Guilty’ (Exclusive)

The 'Will Trent' actress and Joe LoCicero share son Charlie

Gina Rodriguez is opening up about potentially becoming a mom of two.

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE for PEOPLE in 10, the Jane The Virgin alum, 40, chatted about her nearly 2-year-old son Charlie and raved about how "in love" she is with her toddler — before reflecting on how her parenting will change as he gets older.

For Rodriguez, it's hard not to post photos of Charlie to social media every day, she says, but she still wants to give him some privacy as he grows up.

"I wanna post everything about him but I limit it, and I know at some point I'm gonna have to stop because it's his life, but I'm just so in love," she tells PEOPLE, before noting how well-spoken and "eloquent" her 23-month-old is.

"His communication is unbelievable, and I'm so grateful for it because he communicates what he wants, what he needs, his boundaries — he's teaching me boundaries!" Rodriguez says, revealing that Charlie, whom she shares with husband Joe LoCicero, is already speaking in full sentences.

"I'm not teaching him anything, he's teaching me everything," she adds.

"I'm afraid to have a second because of how much I love this guy," Rodriguez says. "I already feel guilty about not being available to him at all times."

However, she and LoCicero aren't quite worried about having another baby right now, instead, she tells PEOPLE, she's focusing on raising Charlie to be a happy and healthy little boy — especially when it comes to his emotions.

"I do feel like, 'To feel is to heal,' " she continues, opening up about how she tries to demonstrate bravery and positivity for him. "Instead of being like, 'No, we have to be happy!' I allow him to go through his emotions and try to hold space for him, and I'm trying to learn how to that for myself."

Rodriguez and her husband — who tied the knot in 2019 — welcomed their first child in early 2023. The actress revealed her son's name in April of that year, casually sharing it in an Instagram post.

The actress has previously opened up to PEOPLE about her love for being a mom — and her and LoCicero's decision big decision not to "do childcare." "Since my baby's been born, we don't do nannies, we don't do childcare — it is us," Rodriguez told PEOPLE in a September 2024 interview.

"I put my child to sleep every single night for the entirety of his existence, which means at 7:00 p.m. on, I am not a human being. I am my child's pillow," the Lucky 13 star added at the time.

According to Rodriguez, she and her baby have become so close that not even his grandparents can help put him to bed.

"I don't know if it's impressive, but it was a choice," she added. "We keep being like, 'This is the choice we made,' because he's with the grandparents right now, and they can't put him to sleep. He wants ... me. It's just Mommy. It is Mommy and Mommy's boobies — and Mommy alone."

"So because of that, it's a choice, it was a big choice," said the actress. "But this might be my only baby, so I just wanted to do it the way I wanted to do it."
