As Prince William spends a few days in the Big Apple - aka New York City - his wife, Kate Middleton has decided to skip the flying visit and stay at home. While the Prince and Princess of Wales often embark on official Royal engagements together (and even took a trip out to Boston in the US earlier this year), it's been revealed that Kate opted to remain on UK soil for the most relatable reason: to look after the couple's kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Despite having the help of their long-term nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo (she took up the job when George was six months old), Kate and Will have been very vocal over the years about making sure they're hands-on parents despite their unconventional lifestyle. From dropping the kids off at school to making sure at least one of them is at home most evenings to spend time with them, a royal insider previously told People that "it's a massive balancing act," but they make it work.

The publication also revealed how Kate's non-royal background helps to give George - who is now second in line to the throne - the most "normal a childhood as possible" in-between "dipping into [compulsory] duties as a future monarch."

In terms of what Prince William has been up to in NYC though, the highlight includes today's Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, where this year's finalists will be revealed ahead of the awards ceremony, which is set to take place in Singapore in November. (FYI, the prize, which was founded by William in 2020 is "the most prestigious global prize for the environment in history," as per the Royal Foundation website.)

And in order to juggle her Royal duties with her mum duties, Kate kept things local instead. Yesterday, the Princess took a trip to the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset where she was pictured amid a fit of giggles as she inflated a lifejacket.
