Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, are set to get married on May 19 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, — and although it’s no secret the gorgeous former actress has broken a number of unwritten royal traditions over the course of their year-and-a-half whirlwind courtship — she’s set to break another rule, this time at her own wedding.
While Markle’s father, Thomas, is expected to attend the wedding and walk her down the aisle — reports suggest that Markle is set to deliver a speech at her wedding reception, in place of her father. This is a huge break from royal tradition, but Markle is quite progressive.
In 2015, she spoke at the U.N. Women’s conference, stating: “I am proud to be a woman and a feminist,” and that “… a wife is equal to her husband, a sister to her brother. Not better, not worse — they are equal.”
Her wedding reception speech is reportedly expected to include a few jokes as well as an affectionate tribute to Prince Harry and a special thanks to Queen Elizabeth II.
Rule breaker or not, the public adores Meghan!
