Why Tyra Banks stepped down from “Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead” remake role

The "America's Next Top Model" host was replaced by Nicole Richie in the reboot.

Though it was initially announced that producer-star Tyra Banks would appear in the new Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead movie remake, the supermodel-turned-media-mogul ended up stepping down and relinquishing her role to Nicole Richie.

"Due to a change in the production schedule, Tyra’s schedule didn’t permit her to be part of the cast," a source with knowledge of the situation exclusively tells EW.

"She serves as an executive producer and creative advisor to the team, where she has been consulting on the film's marketing strategy, leaning into her talents as a global entrepreneur and creative mind," the source says of Banks, who produced the upcoming film through her SMiZE Productions alongside BET+.

Banks was initially announced to star in the reboot as Rose, a character portrayed by Joanna Cassidy in director Stephen Herek's 1991 original, about a young woman (Christina Applegate) whose family babysitter dies while their mother is on vacation, leading the 17-year-old to falsify a resume and land a lucrative job at a clothing company run by an aspirational businesswoman.

Banks and Richie have worked together in the past, with the latter appearing on Banks' America's Next Top Model reality competition series in 2007 on the same episode that infamously featured 50 Cent throwing contestant Jael Strauss into a Los Angeles swimming pool.

Shortly after Tuesday's trailer debut, Banks encouraged her followers on Instagram to see the new film.

"I’m so proud to have been a part of helping this project come to life and I can’t wait to see it on the big screen!" she wrote. "I’ve got my tickets for opening weekend – do you have yours?"

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead opens April 12 in theaters. Watch the new trailer above.
