A woman who is reliant on her husband to get around the “isolated” area they live in has vented about his reluctance to drive her places.

On March, 15, she explained the situation on the U.K. forum Mumsnet, revealing that she doesn’t drive and has “limited” access to public transportation. The woman said she and her husband recently had a “full-blown” argument as she became “upset” with him complaining about having to spend his weekends driving her around.

Following their heated spat, she turned down his offers to drive her to collect an item from a shop two weekends in a row.

“The following weekend the shop told me to pick it up or they’d return the item,” she wrote on Mumsnet. “I asked DH [dearest husband] if he could take me and he refused.

“He said he asked me three times over the previous two weekends and I had said no, so he wasn’t prepared to take me,” she continued. “I ended up having to take a lift from a friend but I cannot keep doing this.

Asking for opinions, she said, “Am I being unreasonable to expect him to take me? If it matters, we both work and I do the bulk of the housework.”

Several commenters argued the woman should learn to drive unless she has a medical issue that prevents her from doing so.

“Chauffeuring another adult constantly gets really, really old,” one person wrote. “He never has time off from driving. You refused to go with him to get this thing 2 weekends in a row because you were having a tantrum that he was tired of driving you all weekend.

“You FAFO [F----- around, find out],” they added. “Some people have disabilities where they can't drive. Unless that's the case, you are being unreasonable.”

Another chimed in, saying, “If you don't want to use public transport or fit in with the driver's convenience, you should probably learn to drive yourself. It sounds like you were being quite petty refusing to go when your dh offered to take you. And yes, driving someone else around is a massive pain. Your dh should, of course, do his share of the housework, but it's a separate issue.”

Many others questioned why the couple chose to live in a remote area knowing that she doesn’t drive.

“YABU [you are being unreasonable] but more importantly, this power imbalance will drive you apart,” a commenter wrote. “You need more independence than this. If you can't learn to drive then use taxis more, or move house. It's hard on you both having it so one-sided.”
