A woman told her roommate that her destructive cat is no longer allowed in her bedroom. And now, the roommate is making her feel guilty for not giving the frustrating feline a second chance.

The 27-year-old woman who banned the cat from entering her room took to Reddit's “Am I the A------?” forum to ask her fellow Redditors advice on the situation.

In the post, she says that her 26-year-old roommate named Lily has a cat named Muffin. But don’t let that sweet little name fool you: the pesky feline causes nothing but chaos.

“Muffin is adorable but has a habit of sneaking into my room and knocking things over,” explained the woman. “Last week, I came home to find Muffin had somehow gotten in and destroyed a puzzle I had spent hours working on. Pieces were scattered everywhere, some were chewed up and one was lost entirely."

The woman went on to explain that she was “furious" about the mess. She then went to Lily and told her that Muffin needed to stay out of her room. Lily agreed, but then said something else that was a little odd.

“I told Lily that Muffin needed to stay out of my room, and she agreed, but she also said Muffin felt bad and wanted to apologize,” the woman shared. “I laughed it off, assuming she was joking. The next day, I found a little note on my desk written in Lily’s handwriting that said, 'I’m sowwy – Muffin.' Along with it was a cat treat.”

While the woman found the unique response amusing, she made it clear that her stance hadn’t changed. But after that, exchanges with her roommate got even weirder as she became adamant about giving the cat a second chance, even speaking as if she was relaying her cat’s actual thoughts and feelings.

“Since then, Lily has been passive-aggressively saying things like, 'Muffin’s just trying to make things right,' or 'You’re holding a grudge against a cat,' ” said the woman. “She even suggested that I let Muffin into my room, supervised so she can 'earn back my trust.' ”

The woman said that she stood her ground and firmly told Lily that she “wasn’t interested in giving her cat another chance to destroy” her stuff.  Now Lily is calling her “heartless” for not accepting Muffin’s supposed "apology.”

“Am I the a------ here?” she asked her fellow Redditors at the conclusion of her post.

Not surprisingly, most commenters sided with the poster over her roommate.

“Your roommate needs to grow up, not everyone wants their roommate's pet's hair in their room,” commented one Redditor. “Lock your door so the cat can't 'accidentally' get in again. Your room is YOUR space, not a common area.”

“Muffin doesn't feel bad, she's a cat,” commented another. “Her owner isn't being respectful of your room and belongings.”

“I have no tolerance for anthropomorphizing” said another Redditor, who quickly received a direct reply from another who added: “Yeah, like sometimes I talk to my cat as if they understand me, but this is actually a bit insane.”
