Woman’s ‘Drake cake’ spawns viral trend
“Drake cakes” — which are simply cakes with Drake’s face on them — are the new baking trend on TikTok.
Eleana (@user816372673) posted a video in July 2022 of her making a cake and decorating it to look like the cover of Drake’s 2013 album, Nothing Was the Same. Her video has over 8.5 million views and over 1.5 million likes.
While it was clear that Eleana was making a Drake cake, some commenters were quick to let her know the cake wasn’t as accurate as the picture on the album cover.
“That’s not drake that’s brake,” said @jame_monga04.
“Why does he look like Sam Smith,” asked @_destiny.ntombela.
Eleana isn’t the only one making avant-garde versions of Drake. Recently, TikTokers have revisited the trend and are making their own Drake cakes.
“That’s meek mill,” said @lexgivenchy under @sophieperalta14‘s video.
However, there have been some decent entries, like one from @breevaughn._.
“This the best one made,” said @natalia.uhh.
The #drakecake has over 81.5 million views and has everyone trying to make the best version of the cake.
TikTok running toward a trend that involves Drake is nothing new. After the December 2022 release of Her Loss — a collaborative album between Drake and 21 Savage — the song “Rich Flex” began trending on TikTok.
The song was involved in a lot of remixes, but one that resonated was the Carter Walsh remix. That version has over 520,000 videos attached to the song.
“Her 21 bday dance,” wrote @caleb.green in the caption.
Whether it’s cakes, cool mash-ups or even a beautiful orchestral arrangement, Drake continues to find himself in the TikTok spotlight.
