A woman has found herself in an icy dispute with her future daughter-in-law after refusing to request time off work to go dress shopping for the latter's wedding.

Taking to the popular Reddit page AITA (Am I the A------) in a thread, she explained that she was asked by her son’s fiancée to go dress shopping with her for the latter's ceremony and suggested a day she couldn’t go due to a busy project she was working on.

“I have to travel for my job, Monday through Friday,” the mother-in-law wrote. “I have been getting on a plane every Monday and getting back on Friday due to a project needing to be supervised.”

“She wants to meet up to get a dress for the wedding. She wants to be there when I get a dress,” she continued. “Originally I was just going to wear the same [long blue] dress … but she wanted me to wear something else since it would match her bridesmaids."

The woman shared that her future daughter-in-law has a different work schedule from Wednesday to Saturday, which is where the conflict began, as they couldn’t agree on a day that suited them both outside of their work obligations.

“So looking at our schedule, Sunday would be the best day to do this. We are both off,” she wrote. The woman then shared that her son’s fiancée said no to that day as it “is her rest day.”

“She asked for the Monday. I told her I can’t and have to work,” she explained further. “Then I suggested Friday or Saturday after work, those got shut down. She wants me to take off work.”

After suggesting other days that were "shut down," the mother-in-law decided to wear the blue dress she was initially going to wear at the wedding, which caused an argument between her and her daughter-in-law.

‘She called me a jerk. My son is mad that I am making the wedding about me and not taking off work. I don’t think I am being unreasonable,” she shared.

The woman added in another update that her son agreed she can wear her blue dress in the end, but her daughter-in-law is no longer speaking to her.

Readers largely sided with the mother-in-law in the comments beneath the original post.

“You’ve offered reasonable suggestions to make this work, and she’s shot down each of them. That’s not your fault,” one person wrote. “Why is she so invested in being there with you? Surely you can pick out a dress in a fit and style that would be appropriate and suitable.”

Another wrote to the mother-in-law’s son, “Son, your fiancée is being ridiculous. Your mom has given her several options but she's refusing them all and blaming your mom… apologize to your mom.”

“I'd keep your son's room ready for him. He'll be back,” another joked.
