This woman's dirty pillow gave her eyelash mites
A woman in China reportedly had more than 100 dust mites living in her eyelashes after she failed to wash her dirty pillowcase for five years. As first reported by Asia Wire, “Xu” had been experiencing itchy eyes for more than two years before she decided to see a doctor.
The reason? She woke up one day and discovered her eyelids were swollen shut.

She reportedly visited a hospital in Wuhan, located in Hubei Province, Central China, and told doctors that she’d simply been treating her condition with eye drops — that’s when doctors discovered the mites.
Xu admitted that she hadn’t washed her pillowcase since 2012. Doctors said the mites were derived from the dirty pillowcase and a lack of airflow to the woman’s room — it essentially created a breeding ground for the mites.
They also diagnosed her with inflammation of the eyelid and pink eye.
The mites were removed from her eyelashes with treatment (this typically includes warm compresses and medications such as Ketoconazole, a topical cream used to treat fungal infections). She was given medication for the conjunctivitis.

Millions of people across the globe reportedly live with eye mites (and yet don’t know it).
These tiny parasitic mites live naturally on human skin, especially on excessively oily glands –Demodex mites (eye mites) love to breed along the lash line and brows as there are a high number of oily glands in these areas.
As for Xu — although doctors treated her, they reminded her to wash her bedding on a regular basis.
