WTA buses need new kids’ art. Saturday’s competition will determine new fall design

Most children’s art ends up on the refrigerator, but two lucky local kids will have their art displayed all around town through the Whatcom Transportation Authority’s 2024 Kids Art Contest.

Kids under 12 can enter the competition on Saturday, Aug. 3 with a chance to have their art permanently displayed on one of two WTA Hybrid buses. The competition is held at the Bellingham Kids Fest at Civic Field and the Ferndale Block Party in downtown Ferndale.

Participation is free. Each kid will get at least 15 minutes to create their artwork while aboard a WTA bus parked at the event. The theme is “I love nature.” All materials are provided, so each child can focus on drawing a favorite animal, bug or plant.

The winner from each event will be announced at the end of August, and the selected art will start making its routes on the bus in September.

Parents can call 360-788-9304 or email genevievec@ridewta.com with any questions about the event.
