"If I were the next Prime Minister" winner: "I would...make Turks and Caicos part of Canada"

Turks and Caicos

If I were Canada's next Prime Minister, I would commence talks regarding the bringing in of the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean into the Canadian federation.

Being a chilly country, if the Islands were Canadianized, the free market would allocate Canadian resources in the winter to this Canadian island, as opposed to other popular destinations, stimulating the domestic economy.
This would also open Canada up to international tourism markets as a destination for travel.
A Canadian island in the Caribbean would give Canada an increased role in foreign affairs. With a greater presence in the area, Canada would have greater influence and access to markets in the Caribbean.
Furthermore with a military naval base on the Canadian island, Canada would be better able to combat the increasing illegal drug trade that draws its survival from undetected mobility through maritime bodies. Such a military base would also grant a quicker response time to emergencies in the area that could threaten trade.
The valuable shipping lines Canada could inherit and defend would no doubt serve as a boon to business and investment as well.
Lastly, such a beautiful area would naturally solicit investment into Canada's film industry.
