‘Yellowstone’ Fans Finally Approve of a Major Character’s Death

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Satisfied by Major Finale Death Paramount

As many fans expected, Yellowstone saved its best death for last. No, not John Dutton’s death. In another (better) universe, it’s possible that Kevin Costner’s Dutton-family patriarch survived until the final episode. At the same time, I can’t imagine Yellowstone’s finale playing out any differently. The ranch is secured—and the right man oversees its safety. Kayce (Luke Grimes) just made the deal instead of his father. If you ask me, that’s even more poetic.

Yellowstone fans were also treated with the show’s long-awaited final showdown between Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie (Wes Bentley). The Duttons’ adopted sibling wavered between friend and foe for much of Yellowstone’s first four seasons, but season 5 firmly planted Jamie as the main villain of the series. After discovering his true parentage and casting the Dutton family aside, Jamie sets out to ruin the Dutton name and turn the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch into an airport. Not if Beth has anything to say about it.

What Happens to Jamie in the Yellowstone Finale?

In the season 5 finale, Jamie delivers a speech in which he declares his innocence. He states in a press conference that he will investigate Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) from Market Equities, feigning that he had no connection to her before her death. He also claims that the governor’s attempt to bar him from the investigation is obstruction of justice.

We will never know whether his speech worked on the people of Montana or not. When Jamie returns home, Beth is waiting for him with a crowbar and bear spray. She bashes him in the head twice with the crowbar and then unleashes the mace on his face.

If this wasn’t TV, Beth’s onslaught probably would have been enough to finish him off right there. The fight goes on for a good six minutes after that. Jamie eventually claims the upper hand against his sister and chokes her until Rip (Cole Hauser) arrives and helps her finish the job. As Rip holds him back, Beth stabs him in the chest with a giant knife. They dump his body in Wyoming and claim that Beth acted in self-defense. Just like that, no more Jamie.

If Yellowstone continues with a Beth and Rip spin-off, the married couple will need to find some new enemies to fight. Maybe they can turn to the Clyburns of The Madison. Paramount announced the sequel spin-off will pick up after Yellowstone season 5 with a new family starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Lost’s Matthew Fox. Only Taylor Sheridan knows what dangers that crew will face. The Clyburns just better thank Beth that they will never need to face Jamie.

Below, we’ve rounded up some of the best fan reactions to Jamie finally getting what he deserved in the finale.
