Keanu Reeves, aka the 'Internet's Boyfriend', as referred to by multiple outlets, broke our hearts when he and artist Alexandra Grant made their red carpet debut as a couple at the LACMA Art + Film Gala, hosted by Gucci, in 2019.
Since then, they've shared many a red carpet moment together. Soon after news broke of their romance they walked the red carpet together in June 2022 when attending the MOCA Gala held at the Geffen Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. During the glitzy occasion, they held hands and looked smitten while smiling and looking into each other's eyes. The couple then attended a performance of American Buffalo at Broadway's Square Theatre in New York City, hand-in-hand.
And in April 2023, the notoriously private couple were even seen sharing a sweet kiss on the red carpet in Los Angeles, in front of photographers. The affectionate moment happened during their appearance at the Museum of Contemporary Art Gala, where Grant wore a bright red floral silk gown replete with ruffles from Carolina Herrera.
A month earlier, after remaining tight-lipped about his relationship with Grant, Hollywood’s heartthrob shared intimate details about a romantic moment between the pair during an interview with People. Asked by the news outlet about his last moment of bliss, Reeves revealed: ‘A couple of days ago with my honey.’
The John Wick: Chapter 4 star added: ‘We were in bed. We were connected. We were smiling and laughing and giggling. Feeling great. It was just really nice to be together.’
And while fans continue to swoon over Reeves, with the recent release of the latest John Wick film, his partner is impressive on her own merits too.
The artist has an extremely accomplished career and plenty of credentials to her name. It also turns out she and Reeves go way back, having been friends and business partners for several years.
Here's everything you need to know about Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant:
The couple have been dating for years
In February 2020, the actor Jennifer Tilly spoke to Page Six about her friend Reeves and Grant, claiming she was told about their alleged relationship 'a couple of years ago, about a year and a half ago'.
'It’s really astonishing to me how in the last five months, all of a sudden, she goes to an event with him and everybody goes insane, like, "It’s his new girlfriend," because she had gone to a lot of events with him,' Tilly said. 'It’s just suddenly surfaced that he’s been dating her for several years.'
The actor continued to give her thoughts on their relationship, branding them 'the perfect couple' and suggesting they both compliment each other as they are both 'low-key' and cool.
Alexandra Grant is an artist
A very successful one at that. The LA-based artist considers painting her medium of choice. She is revered for her collaborations with the transgressive French feminist critic and theorist, novelist, and playwright Hélène Cixous and literature pioneer and retired professor Michael Joyce. Grant's collections have graced galleries such as the Orange County Museum of Art in Santa Ana and reputable Marfa Invitational in Texas.
She has also shown at galleries in New York City, Toronto, Austin and LA (including at LACMA - the Los Angeles County Museum of Art).
It doesn't stop there as she's the creator of grantLOVE, a charity aimed at raising money for arts-based nonprofit organisations.
Alexandra Grant is multilingual
Due to her educational background, Grant is fluent in English, Spanish and French. Despite living in LA, the majority of her childhood was spent at different schools that widened her cultural remit, including a British institution in Mexico City, boarding school in Missouri and the International School of Paris.
In 2019 she told LA Weekly: 'I grew up in part in Mexico City, Washington, D.C., and Paris, moving between languages and cultures.'
She continued: 'Los Angeles felt like home from the moment I first arrived in 1995, especially the diversity of people, idioms, foods, and plants (like jacaranda and bougainvillea).'
Alexandra Grant was a college professor
Grant imparted her knowledge to students at a few different schools across the United States (she clearly followed in the footsteps of her parents who were professors themselves).
She started out working as an adjunct professor at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California from 2009 to 2011 - a period that saw her teach an MFA seminar at Cal State Northridge in 2010.
Grant later mentored students as part of Pacific Northwest College of Art's Distance MFA programme from 2013-2014 before taking up a post at Syracuse University in 2015.
Alexandra Grant refuses to dye her hair
The 49-year-old sports a chic head of silvery grey hair that's so good even Daenerys Targaryen would be jealous, but Grant hasn't always been hair dye-free. In fact, she stopped dyeing her hair for a serious reason. Taking to Instagram, the LA-based artist posted a screenshot of a Newsweek article that reported a new study linking breast cancer to hair dye. Grant captioned the image:
'Wow. Today’s news… the numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of color. I went gray prematurely in my early 20’s… and dyed my hair every colour along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes any more.
'In my 30’s I let my hair turn 'blonde'... I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age. But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards… then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!'
Alexandra Grant and Keanu Reeves have worked together before
Grant has collaborated with several high-profile artists in different fields for various projects throughout her career, one of which being Reeves. The pair first teamed up in 2011 - after meeting at a dinner party in 2009 - on a book called Ode to Happiness and then again in 2016 and 2017 before founding a publishing house together.
The pair were interviewed by the New York Times in 2018 and talked about their approach to working together, explaining they make most of their business decisions together, don't work with agents and don't accept submissions.
Alexandra Grant's has been pictured with Keanu Reeves many times before...
Holding hands too, which made earlier reports that they were dating going viral even more fascinating.
In 2019 the pair attended the Saint Laurent Men's SS20 show in Malibu and posed in pretty much their now-signature pose:
The pair were first pictured together in public in 2016 at a Gala to benefit UN Aids during Miami's Art Basel week, and then again in 2017 at various book signing events.
What have Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant said about each other?
In March 2023, Reeves recalled an intimate moment with Grant during an interview with People, in which he said his last moment of bliss was 'a couple of days ago with my honey' (read his full comment above).
Back in 2019, Reeves spoke about preferring to keep his personal life 'private' during an interview with Parade.
Asked by the magazine if he was an 'eligible bachelor' months before his relationship with Grant became public knowledge, Reeves replied: 'Well, I’m not married.'
In 2020, British Vogue asked Grant if she's interested in marriage, to which she quipped: ' Over a glass of wine… I would love to tell you. Love at every level is deeply important to my identity. How’s that for dodging the question? I do not believe that isolation is the way. There is a period of isolation that I do as a painter, but I deeply value the experience of being in relationships.'
During the time news started swirling about their romance, a source told People: 'Keanu wants to openly share his life with her. He is extremely happy and grateful to have Alex in his life'.
The source alleged the couple began dating earlier that year but wanted to keep it quiet - which made sense when considering those Saint Laurent show pictures which suspiciously evaded attention for a while.
