Zendaya’s Ruched Lobster Skirt Is a Fashion Fever Dream Come to Life

No one does surrealist fashion quite like Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry. And who better to pull off the house's envelope-pushing statement pieces than Zendaya?

The actor did just that this past weekend at the CCXP23 convention in São Paulo, Brazil, where she made an appearance alongside Dune costars Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, and Austin Butler.

Zendaya wore a sharp ivory button-down tucked into an elegant white skirt, with body-sculpting ruching details that culminated into a huge white 3D lobster adorned at the center of the waist. Law Roach, Zendaya's longtime stylist and collaborator, later noted on Instagram that the lobster is actually a nod to the terrific extraterrestrial sandworms in Dune.

The surrealist ensemble was pulled straight from Schiaparelli's Spring 2024 Ready-to-Wear runway, which featured various other lobster-inspired designs. (Lobsters have long been a signature motif at Schiaparelli, with house founder Elsa Schiaparelli first working with Salvador Dalí to create bold lobster-painted dresses back in the 1930s.)

Zendaya completed her outfit by pairing simple elements to the statement skirt, including classic white pumps, diamond stud earrings, and beaded bracelets.

Zendaya previously opened up about her creative dynamic with Roach in an interview with Elle.

“I ride super hard for my team, especially for people I love,” she told the magazine. “[Law is] involved in every fashion contract, everything I do. If I have an opportunity where he can come with me, he’s always going to be there. He’s always been my creative director in a sense, and he continues to fill that role, because it’s more than just clothes on a red carpet. It’s a bigger thing.”
