Zoo Miami welcomes new baby animal — it’ll have giant horns. Take a look

A day before Thanksgiving good tidings came early for Zoo Miami as they welcomed the birth of a rare giant eland. The new baby can be found tucked in the herd in their enclosure.

The male calf was 65 pounds and marked the 17th giant eland born at the zoo. His mother is 5-year-old Maria, and his father is 8 years old.

Zoo Miami is the only accredited zoo in the country that has giant elands, which are the world’s largest antelope and are listed as vulnerable by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The baby boy is back with is mother and herd in their enclosure. Zoo goers might have a hard time spotting the calf as Maria may have her baby boy in a discreet location.

The calf may have some friends coming along soon as two other female giant elands are due to give birth soon.
