Photos: Heavy rain creates 5ft-deep landscape erosion in Devon
Britain is currently being battered by torrential rain and floods and, in one area of the UK, has even caused 5ft deep gullies to appear on the landscape.
local photographer Martin Hughes-Jones managed to capture these images in Sampford Peverell, Devon, showing the effects of severe soil erosion on a steep field that was thought to have contained too few crops prior to the recent heavy rain, reports the Daily Mail.
The images of the eroded landscape were taken on Tuesday, and they came as the Environment Agency issued three severe flood warnings in the South West, on top of the 67 flood warnings and 213 flood alerts in place.
Over in Somerset, flood-hit areas even received a visit from Prince Charles, who declared it a "tragedy" that some villages had been cut off for more than a month.
According to the BBC, one of the prince's charities is donating £50,000 to help victims, while the government has announced an extra £300,000 of emergency funding.
The Metro reports that almost 45,000 homes in the south west lost power on Tuesday night, after strong winds his areas already struggling to recover from recent floods.
Transport and rail networks were also left in chaos after the storm, and forecaster are warning of more of the same this week.
Torrential rain and winds of up to 80mph over the coming days could cause further road and rail disruption.
