3.1 Phillip Lim Marks 20 Years With Joyful Spring 2025 Collection
How do you mark two decades in business? With gratitude and joy, if you are designer Phillip Lim. “Tomorrow is not promised,” he said, taking a moment backstage to reflect.
Lim is a New York staple, still trudging the fashion path that has seen many of his contemporaries leave the fold. Fashion is a hard game, moving at a relentless pace with many pitfalls. But pragmatic and with grace, Lim moved forward with purpose for spring, not looking back but taking what he has learned and making it new.

“It’s quintessential 3.1 Phillip Lim, California to New York City,” he said, adding he has an undercurrent of a surfer girl from California, a global bohemian. The cool girl from Cali vibes could be seen in the colored net market tote bags and pearl jewelry, but the ready-to-wear — full of Lim design nuances and reimagined motifs like rosettes, lace and pinstripe shirting fabrics — was a celebration of an urban existence.
The show began with a sheer white lace look, cascading handkerchief hems and structured bell sleeves over a crisscross skirt. He used the fabric in a variety of colors throughout. Ever the mixed media magpie, one can count on Lim to mix it all — feathers, sheer sporty lace‚ peplums, bubble hems, apron tops, denim with patches, camouflage print, beaded fringe and color — to create unique silhouettes. It’s been true since Day One and it still feels au courant. Diaphanous slipdresses, crystal weave basketball shorts and softly feathered bomber jackets paraded by, the models walking to a soundtrack of songs “super personal” to Lim.
The collection had a few tongue-in-cheek moments, with a several deconstructed slogan T-shirts mixed in. “Enjoy the moment,” one said. It was slit up the sides with an asymmetrical ruffle on the back styled over a sheer beige and white dress with snaps up the slit.
Far from a nihilist, it was said with grace. After all, Lim has quite a lot to celebrate.
