Every year around Thanksgiving my phone starts frantically pinging. Everyone from my college roommates to former coworkers and family members across the country have urgent Thanksgiving cooking queries.

Luckily, there is nothing I love discussing in painstaking detail more than turkey and all the accompaniments. Over the years, people have been surprised to learn that my number one tip for pulling off a perfect Thanksgiving meal is having a flavorful turkey stock or broth on hand.

Turkey bone broth is practically liquid gold when it comes to holiday cooking. I use it to add depth of flavor to my gravy, to add dimension to my stuffing, to help revive my turkey, and to deglaze pans. There is almost no holiday cooking task that doesn't benefit from a splash or two of savory broth.

Every year, I make a big batch a few weeks before Thanksgiving, and while I love the rich turkey essence it adds to everything on my menu, the process is time-consuming, messy, and, worst of all, I never have enough when the big day rolls around.

Why I Love Trader Joe's Turkey Bone Broth

That was until I discovered Trader Joe’s Organic Turkey Bone Broth ($3.49) a few years ago. Consider this a PSA to stock up now. This limited edition seasonal item isn’t on the shelves for long. As soon as I see it arrive in stores, I stock up on a few of the shelf stable boxes as a Thanksgiving day insurance policy. If my turkey ends up a little dry, I top it with a splash of warm broth to give it some life. The same tip applies to turkey that has gone cold before everything else comes together.

My favorite way to use this broth is when it comes time to reinvent leftovers. It makes a flavorful base for soups, and adding a splash or two to leftover turkey, stuffing, and even mashed potatoes allows you to enjoy those drab leftovers as if they were freshly made.

This holiday staple is made from organic marrow and cartilage-rich turkey bones, which means the broth has a ton of flavor, body, and protein. It’s lightly seasoned with sea salt and onion powder, making it a great option to baste the turkey with.

There is just the right amount of seasoning; even as it reduces, the salt content never becomes overwhelming, which can happen with some broths. Grab a few cartons and keep it at a gentle simmer on your stove this Thanksgiving. I can almost guarantee it will be your most helpful kitchen partner!
