When the sweltering summer months roll around, we usually give our boots a much-needed break before they resurface for the fall. This is the season when we tend to let our feet breathe and show off our shiny, polished pedicures. But what if we told you your favorite boots could play a starring role in your rotation of summer shoe styles?

Sometimes, when it comes to shoes, you need something more substantial to pair with your lighter-weight outfits other than strappy gladiator sandals or coquettish ballet flats, and a trendy boot is just the ticket.  Finding a boot style that works for the summertime requires looking for a less stuffy version of a fall or winter boot. Hotter-than-hot temperatures call for relaxed looks that read carefree and easy, and your boots should reflect that lighthearted feeling.

Certain styles work better with warm-weather looks, and we’ve rounded up our top five favorite trending boot styles that will keep you looking cool throughout the summer.

A Kickin’ Cowboy Boot

There are a couple of style personalities you can try on when wearing cowboy boots for summer. There’s the carefree boho look with flowy blouses and dresses in soft colors paired with a brown cowboy boot. You could go the opposite route and wear a sleek black cowboy boot with tailored shorts and an oversized blazer. Or go completely maximalist, opting for cherry red boots with an equally expressive look of bold colors in exaggerated silhouettes.

A Moto Boot

A moto boot might evoke feelings of fall fashion, but it works just as well with a warm-weather ensemble. Lending a touch of edge to a soft look creates a balance you wouldn’t otherwise find with a chunky sandal or flat. If your outfit is leaning towards feminine and flouncy, adding a moto boot toughens it up without going full-on biker mode.

A Lofty Chelsea Boot

Arguably a seasonless style of boot, the Chelsea platform brings so much fun and, of course, elevation to any look. A black leather boot will be your go-to pair when you want to add some unexpected style flourish to your look. A platform boot works with any length of dress or skirt, whether it’s a micro mini or ruffled maxi, and looks equally at home with soft florals as it does with fashion goth style.

Swingy Fringe Boots

If you want an endless trove of summer-style inspo, look no further than Coachella attendees. Every year, festival-goers bring their eclectic style A-game, and without a doubt, fringed outfits and certainly fringed boots always make an appearance. Fringe boots bring that carefree summer vibe we’re all chasing and pair easily with jean shorts, short skirts, and baby doll dresses. Since the boots are the statement piece of your outfit, it’s best to pair them with a shorter hemline to show off the swingy fringe.

Soft Slouchy Boots

Slouchy boots, reminiscent of the 1980s, are making a comeback, and summer is the perfect time to try out the trend. The slouch gives off a more relaxed vibe than a structured knee-high boot and still looks chic in soft suede. To elevate your look, you can opt for a leather pair of knee-high slouchy boots to create visual interest for an evening out. Pair with your favorite mini skirt and oversized leather jacket before heading out for the night.
