Now that most retailers across the country have shut their doors in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19, many shoppers have turned to online shopping to solve their wardrobe woes.
But what if you hate shopping, and the thought of browsing online is even more overwhelming than setting foot inside a retail store? Enter style boxes.

In recent years, style boxes have been gaining in popularity, particularly among those who don’t enjoy shopping — or simply don’t have time to shop for themselves. Generally the way they work is that shoppers fill out a questionnaire to build a style profile, and companies will ship out a customized selection of items to suit their individual style.
According to a recent McKinsey report, it’s estimated that the current market for subscription services in the United States alone is worth about $12 billion to $15 billion, and continues to grow. Although many of the most popular style boxes like Stitch Fix and Rent the Runway are only available in the U.S., there’s still a wide range of options for those of us north of the border.
Ahead, you’ll find seven of the best options for style boxes that deliver to Canada, so you can up your fashion game without ever having to leave the house.
Frank and Oak Style Plan
Frequency: Monthly
Price: $29-$149 per item, plus a $25 styling fee per box that’s credited towards any purchases.
What you get: In each Frank and Oak Style Plan, you’ll receive exclusive pieces that have been personally selected for you by expert stylists. Each box includes up to four on-trend pieces tailored to your style.
How it works: Each month, you can preview your box to confirm, customize or skip your order. Once it arrives, you have seven days to decide which items to keep and can send what you don’t want back for free. If you do decide to return all items though, you’ll still have to pay the $25 styling fee per box.
Lolë Box
Frequency: Choose to receive a box monthly, every other month, every three months, or on demand.
Price: On average, the amount of clothing in each box totals to $550 (you only pay for what you keep), plus a $25 styling fee that’s credited to your purchase. If you do decide to keep over $250 worth of merchandise, you'll also receive 20% off your entire purchase.
What you get: Each box contains a combination of seven items that are tailored to your lifestyle and activity levels. Whether you’re into yoga, running, HIIT or just lounging, you can choose from Lolë’s selection of tops, bottoms, sports bras, outerwear and loungewear.
How it works: Once your Lolë Box arrives, you have 14 days to try everything on in the comfort of your own home, keep what you like, and send back the rest. Like the Frank and Oak Style Plan, if you decide to return all items you’ll still have to pay the $25 styling fee.
Box of Style
Frequency: One box every three months.
Price: $100 USD per quarter, or $350 USD for an annual membership.
What you get: Each box contains $500 USD worth of fashion and beauty for a fifth of the price, all curated by celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and tailored to your preferences. Each box includes five items, as well as styling tips from Rachel Zoe herself.
How it works: Every three months, a box filled with seasonal goodies will be shipped out and delivered to your door. With this subscription box, there are no returns or exchanges, so you’ll have to keep everything included.
JustFab
Frequency: Monthly.
Price: $40 USD, which is credited to your membership to spend each month.
What you get: As a JustFab member, you’ll have access to their site and exclusive selection of footwear and accessories - all priced under $40. With a membership, you also have full access to their sales and discount events, meaning more customization when selecting what you’d like to receive each month.
How it works: Using your credits, just choose what items you’d like to receive in your monthly box. Should you decide to skip a delivery, you have until the 5th of the month to opt out, or you’ll still be charged for your subscription.
Fabletics
Frequency: Monthly
Price: $50 USD, which is credited to your membership to spend each month.
What you get: Members can choose from Fabletics’ selection of activewear and loungewear, all at up to 50 per cent off regular price. Typically, you can choose one outfit, or two pairs of leggings for the membership cost of $50.
How it works: Similar to JustFab (they’re owned by the same company, after all), members receive a credit to their account that can be used to purchase items from Fabletics. If you want to skip a delivery, again, be sure to opt out by the 5th of the month to avoid the $50 charge.
Frock Box
Frequency: Monthly
Price: Choose between one of three subscription boxes: $65 for the Shoe Box, $25 plus the cost of items for the Favourites Box, or $100 for the Gold Box, plus $10 shipping.
What you get: One pair of shoes, or five unique pieces to create an outfit (Favourites Box), or one to two pieces plus jewelry (Gold Box) that’s been tailored to your taste.
How it works: FrockBox takes the work out of shopping, sourcing from a wide variety of brands to provide fashion choices you’ll love. As well as using information from your questionnaire, they also use your personal Pinterest boards for even more personalized recommendations.
From Rachel
Frequency: Shipped every one, two or three months.
Price: $25 per box.
What you get: Two pairs of tights in each delivery box, as well as 25 per cent off all online orders.
How it works: With two options for your delivery, you can choose to receive two styles selected by Rachel stylists, or pick your own pairs of tights. Should you decide to opt out, you can pause your subscription one delivery at a time.
