16 hallway mirrors to create the illusion of space
A hallway mirror can create the illusion of a bigger, brighter space, which is especially useful in narrow and darker hallways.
Generally speaking, when choosing a hallway mirror, opt for a larger mirror that covers the majority of the chosen wall. 'A grand horizontal or vertical mirror will invite our eyes to perceive the bouncing reflections as increased volume, making the room look bigger,' say the design team at Laura Ashley Lighting and Mirrors.
Well-placed table lamps, floor lamps or wall lights can work in tandem with a hallway mirror, adding atmosphere and dimension to the space. When coordinated with the right mirror; the two go hand in hand with giving the impression of a larger space.
If you are blessed with windows in your hallway, consider placing your mirror opposite one. 'Placing your mirror on a wall adjacent to a window or glass door will trick the eye into thinking your space is larger and will also bounce light into all corners of your space,' explains Yvonne Keal, senior product manager at Hillarys.
Whether you opt for classic circular styles, arched or rectangular designs, there are plenty of mirrors to help you make the best first impression at home. Take a look at our favourite hallway mirror designs below...
