Hutch’s Pie and Sandwich Shop, a 90-year-old bakery which grew into a regional fried pie company, will close Feb. 15, the Hutchens family posted on Facebook.

“After working in the pie business for about 90% of my lifetime, I have decided to retire from the life of pie,” an unsigned post by the descendants of late founder Raymond F. “Hutch” Hutchens reads.

“This has not been an easy decision and one that I have struggled with for well over the last year. ... Thank you Weatherford for the support since 1935.”

Hutch Hutchens was 22 in 1935 when he started baking and selling hand-size fried pies out of his garage and delivering them in a Ford Model A.

Hutch’s Pies eventually dominated the regional market in supermarkets and convenience stores, along with Lubbock-based August’s Pies and Arlington-based Mindy Lu’s.
