One of these $32 brow pencils is sold every 5 seconds — here's my honest review

When it comes to brows, people typically fall in under two camps: bold and natural. I fall under both, depending on the occasion. But whether I’m braving a bare face with very natural-looking brows or going full glam with sharp, clean arches and 10+ products on my face, there’s one product I can always rely on to create the most believable brows, and it’s the Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil ($32).

The key word here is believable. Because like the many who are still facing the consequences from the tweeze fest of the 2000s (thanks a lot, Gwen Stefani), I’ve relied on a steady hand and products to transform the look of my fine, sparse brows. And while I’ve come across many pomades, powders, gels and pencils throughout the years, nothing etches on hair-like strokes like the Precisely, My Brow Pencil.

Best known for its unbreakable, ultra-fine defining precision tip, Canadians are relying on the Precisely, My Brow Pencil to shape their brows, making it the number choice for prestige brow product in the country.

According to Benefit Cosmetics, a Precisely, My Brow Pencil is sold every five seconds across 55 countries. Believable? Heck yes!

I’ve been growing out my brows for years, and even with the help of serums and the tedious breaks in between plucking, I’ve accepted that my brows will never look like how they used to. My left brow is close to as perfect as it could get, while the right brow is missing hairs along the tail and arch to form a shape.

So to even them out, I like to start off by priming my brows with the Benefit Cosmetics Browvo! Conditioning Primer ($38), a nutrient-rich eyebrow primer. I love this primer so much because it works like glue — without it being sticky — setting my hairs in place to create the illusion of fuller brows. Once the formula has set and dried, I simply fill in the gaps with the Precisely, My Brow Pencil, focusing on the meat and high arches of my brow to create a soft everyday brow. The lead tip easily distribute a soft, yet buildable pigment for ultimate control, which makes it great for makeup newbies.

Unlike other brands that name their brow pencil shades (brunette, auburn, blonde and taupe for example), I really like how Benefit recognizes each shade by a number. I wear shade 2.5, which is described as a neutral blonde. Although I am a brunette, I prefer using a lighter shade to blend and highlight the brow hairs I actually do have. I find that the numbers allow you to pick the shade that works best for you, without making you feel like you’re breaking any rules. But for when I want to go a little bolder, I like to wear shade 3.75, a warm medium brown.

The Precisely, My Brow Pencil is available in 12 flexible shades to help achieve the brows you wish you were born with.

If you ask me, using a brow pencil alone can result in blocky, flat-looking brows. But through trial and error, since its launch in 2016, the Precisely, My BrowPencil works best with the Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel ($32) and 24 Brow Setter Clear Brow Gel ($32) to create the ultimate dimension and volume.

Aside from the steep pricing, Benefit Cosmetics brow products are perfect. Luckily for those who can’t even fathom the idea of paying $30+ dollars for brow makeup, the brand offers some products in mini sizes. The mini size of the Precisely, My Brow Pencil is only $17.
