Acqua di Parma Drops a Sequel to its Bestseller
Acqua di Parma has released a kind-of sequel to its original, and arguably definitive, scent.
Colonia was launched in 1916, a fragrance that blended citrus, floral and woody notes to unisex appeal.
Together with clever branding, packaging and positioning, it helped propel Acqua di Parma to become a leader in Italian lifestyle products, that today include candles, leather accessories and bathrobes, sold in 43 countries.
But the company remains best-known for its fragrances, of which the classic Colonia is its most recognisable and best-selling product.
Its new Colonia II Profumo treads that tricky line of staying faithful to the original, whilst gently modernising it.
Fragrance-heads may appreciate top notes of bergamot, blood orange and grapefruit, giving freshness; heart notes of rosemary and orange, offering warmth and depth; and base notes of patchouli and vetiver oil for woody tones.
The new fragrance has been launched with a collection of “lifestyle objects”, including a leather trunk, lined with yellow lambskin, and a wooden tray, the better to display the instantly recognisable AdP bottle(s).
We perhaps best associate the brand with summer nights living la dolce vita, so trying to wrap your head around that in the depths of February in Britain might be a big ask.
Or perhaps not.
“It’s very clean and warm,” notes one online reviewer of Colonia II Profumo. “Well put together, classic even.
"I’m looking forward to this one in summer, but for the fresh lift and post-shower clean feeling, it’s lovely in winter, too.”
