With Beyonce and Amal Clooney both expecting twins this year, it seems like twins are easier to come by than you might think. But double sets of twins? Now that’s a little more rare.

But for For Juliet Cannici and her wife Nikki, their growing family of four kids — double sets of twins — is a new reality.

A photographer since 2010, Cannici has been capturing the excitement of new babies for almost seven years. Since having her first set of twins, Nico and Siena, almost three years ago, Cannici has featured them on her professional photography Facebook page. Recently, she shared the following photo on her page, announcing the addition of her “9 days new” twins.

“It’s possible that I could be a bit biased, but I think my twin baby girls are some of the cutest nuggets I’ve ever seen!” she wrote.

Identical twins, Gia and Gemma, arrived on Jan. 26, weighing in at just over four pounds each.

“While Nico and Siena were somewhat expected (due to science), Gia and Gemma were a huge surprise. We had been through three rounds of IVF within six months, and on the fourth round got the positive pregnancy test result,” said Cannici.

“We went in for our first ultrasound with the tech who had been with us through all our struggles and she asked Nikki how she has been feeling. Nikki said ‘very symptomatic.’ And she said ‘Well that makes sense based on what I’m seeing,’ and she just starting cracking up… we knew it to be a possibility, it always is, but this time around with only one egg put in for IVF the odds were so small that it hadn’t crossed our minds.”

The photographer mom took the opportunity to photograph her wife throughout the pregnancy, capturing the moments before the second set of twins arrived.

“We spent the majority of my wife Nikki’s pregnancy saying ‘I can’t believe we are having twins again,’ and we still are shocked by it now that they are here.”

When asked what it’s like to be a mom of double sets of twins, Cannici said it has been going really well, with the older twins sharing their parents’ attention.

“Nico and Siena are as much in love with them as we are. They are gentler and more loving than we could have asked for, always wanting to hold them or help feed or give a bath,” she said.

Cannici has some advice for other parents of twins.

“To twin moms I say really, really try to savour it. Life with twins is so chaotic that there seems to be less time to enjoy the moments…then suddenly your kids are walking and talking,” she said.

While life is certainly different for the Cannici family now, the mother of four wouldn’t change it for the world.

“So far, having two sets of twins has been amazing. We are now a bit hunkered down, but we look forward to the spring when we can play outside and go to parks, zoos, etc. as a family.”
