The Roman Bridge of Cordoba in Cordoba, SpainSolo travel is one of the most empowering things you can do. Wandering through an unfamiliar city increases self-reliance. Successfully navigating an entirely new form of transportation boosts your confidence. Not to mention, your itinerary is entirely at your discretion. Want to spend all day on the beach? Or forgo visiting that one museum everyone says you have to see? It’s completely up to you.
Some destinations, however, are better suited for solo travel than others. According to a new report released by Kensington, a private guided luxury travel service, India tops the list for those looking to experience a solo trip in 2025.
"Solo travelers are increasingly choosing destinations with deep cultural significance and unique landscapes balanced with independence and seamless, personalized service," Matt Cammaert, the SVP of marketing at Kensington, told Travel + Leisure. "They want the freedom to explore at their own pace while enjoying expert guidance, exclusive access, and curated itineraries that reflect their interests."
The report said India is the No. 1 solo travel destination for 2025. "From the vibrant streets of Jaipur to the tranquil backwaters of Kerala, India’s diversity ensures that every traveler finds something extraordinary," Anit Singh, Kensington's destination expert for the Indian subcontinent, told T+L. "With its world-class accommodations, renowned wellness retreats, and rich tapestry of history and tradition, it’s no surprise that India continues to top the list for solo explorers looking for both adventure and personal transformation."
Singh added that India — as well as runners-up Egypt and Thailand, No. 4 and No. 5 on the list — are places that “offer a blend of cultural depth, spiritual experiences, and unparalleled hospitality."

The Kensington report also shared that while there was a dip in solo travel following the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been on the rebound over the last couple of years. “According to our Affluent Traveler Survey, almost 76 percent of our audience is extremely to somewhat open to traveling by themselves internationally in the next three years, and a slim majority report being more interested in it,” the report reads.
