Benjamin Moore has launched a new initiative to encourage renters to add colour to their walls, all without the risk of losing their deposit. Throughout the month of August, the paint company is offering 10,000 renters who purchase a can of interior paint the chance to use their receipts to redeem a free can of white paint when they move out.

As more people are renting for longer, it's no wonder there's a constant tug of war between wanting to make a rented house feel like a home and not wanting to lose a deposit. While many people decide that creating that longed-for pink feature wall just isn't worth the risk, there is a trend of renters throwing caution to the wind and painting their homes anyway. This video from @chescaleigh is a prime example.

Inspired by this movement, Benjamin Moore is empowering renters to get creative with paint at home. By offering a free can of white paint in 2025, if you buy an interior paint colour this August, the company is alleviating renters of the financial burden of either having to buy extra white paint to return the property to its former state, or of losing their deposit altogether.

'During the pandemic, we saw significant focus turn to people's homes, with a renewed interest in personalising them through design and colour,' says Helen Shaw, director of marketing (International) at Benjamin Moore. 'Couple this with the long-term trend of more people renting for extended periods and we've inevitably seen increased personalisation of rental properties.

'However, for a large portion of renters, we've noticed that the risk of losing their security deposit due to more significant changes such as painting, has generally proven a roadblock to adding this personal touch. We came up with this programme to help eliminate this.'

Hats off to Benjamin Moore for this innovative idea – renters deserve a happy and personality-packed home, too. If you're wondering whether it's time to spruce up those boring white walls, head to Benjamin Moore for more details and begin a guilt-free revamp.
