The Best Memes About Trump’s Inauguration

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, marking his second term in office — this time with J.D. Vance as vice president.

President Joe Biden and Trump's former opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris were both present for the transfer of power, as is a tradition that Trump himself refused to participate in in 2021. Sitting behind Trump's family, including first lady Melania Trump, were tech billionaires Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and Jeff Bezos — proving Trump's deep ties with the world's elite.

For only the second time in American history, the inauguration was moved inside to the Rotunda, instead of the West Front of the Capitol due to cold conditions. It also coincided with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Typically, supporters can attend the president's swearing-in ceremony, but Trump's inauguration was kept small due to the change of scenery.

During his inaugural speech, Trump promised to sign a long list of executive orders that would directly attack immigrants and LGBTQ+ rights, along with ending DEI programs and initiatives designed to combat the climate crisis. The crowd full of Trump supporters stood up and cheered as he spoke about his plans, while the Bidens and former Presidents Obama and Clinton chose to remain seated. Trump thanked Biden and the other former presidents for attending, before insulting their policies in front of them.

With the bleak tone of the inauguration and the continued divide the country is plunging into, it seemed that many people chose to stay offline for the duration of the ceremony, possibly choosing to protect their peace. But for those who stayed online, there were jokes to be made and memes to be created. From Melania's comically flat hat to Barron Trump's comically tall stature, here are some of the jokes that'll (hopefully) make you laugh instead of cry:
