Researchers from the National Institutes of Health discovered that you need to cut just 10 calories a day from your diet for every pound you want to lose over time. So, if you want to drop five pounds, cut 50 calories. That's the equivalent of leaving a small piece of cheese off of your sandwich or having a smaller glass of wine than usual-no biggie, right?

Scientists say if you stick with this plan, you'll lose the weight over three years, with most of the lbs dropping off in the first year.
