A Body Language Expert Says Brad Pitt "Didn't Want" Jennifer Aniston to Go After Their Reunion Last Month

From Good Housekeeping

  • Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston got divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage.

  • The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor and The Morning Show actress recently had a buzz-worthy reunion at the 2020 SAG Awards.

  • Below, a body language expert analyzes what their relationships is like now.

On January 19, the internet had a collective meltdown when photos emerged of exes Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston hanging out backstage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards after each winning an award. The story goes that they were working the press circuit when Brad walked down the hallway and called out "Aniston!" Jennifer then turned around and they embraced and congratulated each other.

Of course, given that the two were the power couple in the early 2000s, it's not entirely surprising that everyone started hoping their reunion would rekindle an old flame. But did their exchange really signal anything romantic?

According to Patti Wood, body language expert and author of SNAP: Making the Most of First Impressions, Body Language, and Charisma, there's clearly shared tenderness between the two, despite the fact that they split up back in 2005. Looking at the below photo in particular, Patti notes that the way Jennifer leans into Brad is significant.

"It indicates that she trusts him ... she's giving her weight forward. She is not making it too sexual because she's got her feet back, but the photo to me shows trust," she explains.

Patti also says that the relaxed nature of Jennifer's arm and the way her fingers come out and separate slightly is another sign of affection. What's more, both of their cheeks are raised.

"So little of their faces are showing and yet we know they're joyful and I just love that moment of absolute intimacy between them," she adds. "That's not for the cameras, they're sharing that joy."

As for this next photo below (which had everyone talking), Patti calls out Brad's focus on Jennifer and says the huge grin on his face hints that he's "very joyful." The way his arms are positioned is, apparently, also very telling.

"He has his award down low, he's not holding it up high, which means it doesn't really matter [to him in this moment]," she analyzes. "You see his other hand up and holding her at the wrist, that's [saying], 'I don't want to let you go. I'm holding on, I don't want you to pull back, I want you to come in.'"

Despite Brad's energy, Patti reads mixed emotions on Jennifer's face. "It's like I can't believe it, I'm happy and I'm sad."

When the brief exchange was over (as you can see in this final photo), Jennifer began to walk away. But even as she was leaving, Patti calls out what she thinks is a clear indication that Jennifer wished they would've had more time together.

"She can't quite stop touching him with her fingers," Patti mentions. "I feel like there's part of her that's held back, that she wants to hold him close."

Likewise, Patti concludes that the feeling is mutual. "You see his fingers, they're really laced around her wrist. It's saying, 'I love that you're doing this and I don't want you to go ... he also has, again, a tender focus on her which says, 'I'm happy and pleased.'"

So, what's the verdict? If you're a firm believer in body language, then it appears things are pretty solid between the two. This would support what reports have been saying all along about them being close friends.

Jennifer herself told Extra at the SAG Awards, “We’ve all grown up together, we really have. And it just feels like a really fun night to celebrate and cheer each other on and keep working.”

Meanwhile, a "source" dished to People that “Jen was happy for Brad," but that "she is happy to have Brad back in her life as a friend, but that’s it.”

So there you have it.
