Bootcut jeans are back, whether you like it or not

Just as 2018 comes to a close, bootcut jeans have somehow sneaked their way back into the fashion spotlight — at least for men. This is all thanks to Balenciaga, a high-fashion label led by Demna Gvasalia, who showcased bootcut jeans in the brand’s latest menswear look book.

Although trends come and go when it comes to fashion, certain trends seem to always find their way back; 2018 is a prime example of this. This year saw the return of chunky dad sneakers, fanny packs, cargo pants, plaid, and tie-dye.

But bootcut jeans in particular are not being welcomed as warmly, especially on the web. Chrissy Teigen jumped in on the conversation after GQ pointed out the bootcut’s infamous return. Others weren’t shy about chiming in with their feelings as well.

Traditionally, bootcut jeans are defined as ones that tapers at the knee and loosen around the calves and ankles. Not everyone finds them to be the most flattering look, but they’re likely very comfortable. Nevertheless, there’s a reason why denim brands like Levi’s and Wrangler have never stopped selling them.
