A woman who acted as a bridesmaid for her friend is questioning whether she made the right choice when she declined to have the bride's makeup artist do her makeup.

On Wednesday, March 12, a 28-year-old woman shared a post to Reddit's r/weddingshaming forum that detailed how her friend — referred to as 31-year-old Katrina — became "p-----" after she asked for a more glamorous makeup look than the rest of her bridesmaids.

"Now, she hired this one makeup artist who I don’t have any problems with," the Reddit user wrote.

"The makeup artist, however, was one of those makeup artists who only did natural/the 'clean girl' makeup look," she added, referring to the popular natural makeup style that emphasizes clear skin and a glossy finish. "All my friends/other bridesmaids and the bride herself are all natural makeup girls, while I was the only one who did a full glam."

The Redditor reasoned that because she didn't want to have this "poor makeup artist" learn an entirely new style of makeup for Katrina's big day, she decided to do her own makeup — and lean more heavily on a full-glam makeup style, featuring heavier blush, false lashes and a dark lip.

"When [Katrina] saw my makeup after I did it, [she] didn’t care because she was obviously busy at that moment," the user continued. "But after the whole reception and everything, she was trying to say that I did my makeup myself on purpose to outshine her and look better than her."

"Genuinely don’t know how she would ever think of that," the post ends.

Despite the bridesmaid's arguments, the Reddit community took the bride's side, reasoning that brides often have a style they want all of their wedding party to follow for the big day.

"I mean, generally when a bride hires a makeup artist to work on all the bridesmaids, it’s because she wants them to have a similar look," one commenter wrote. "Did you consider asking the bride ahead of time if she would mind if you looked really different from the rest of the group?"

The original poster even shared a photo of herself with her makeup on, hoping to convince the Reddit community that she hadn't done anything out of the ordinary for a wedding by doing her usual full-glam makeup look.

"I was barely standing out," she wrote. "I posted the makeup look it looked normal and I don’t think you would ever be thinking, 'OMG, she outshined the bride with that makeup.' I am not even self absorbed, there’s such thing as high maintenance."

"You overstepped," one other response added. "In the grand scheme of things, it's small. However you are definitely in the wrong. Her day, her wishes. You should apologize."

"Sorry dude, you’re 100% in the wrong here," another Redditor chimed in. "The bride clearly had a specific look she was going for, and toning down your own aesthetic for one day isn’t going to kill you. If I were a stranger looking at photos from that day, I would 100% be judging the bridesmaid who had to do a full glam face of makeup while everyone else was in a muted look. It would absolutely look like this chick tried to outshine the bride."

"The general rule for weddings is you don’t try to outshine one of the two people the day is supposed to be about," the commenter continued. "It's tacky and classless."
