Kylie Jenner Reveals Why Her Latest Fragrance Marks a New Chapter

For her beauty brand’s latest scent, Kylie Jenner set her sights on the future. “I loved the idea of trying to capture the feeling of a new day,” Jenner says. “Everyone loves a fresh start and new beginning, so if I could bottle that up, then that's a win.” Cosmic Kylie 2.0, the second fragrance from Kylie Cosmetics, opens with bright, juicy notes of pear and pink pepper, underscored by a bouquet of flowers that follow, including orchid and lavender. It’s rounded out with base notes of amber and sandalwood, which add creaminess and depth. Altogether, the scent is dewy and floral, evoking the first bloom of spring flowers and fruit.
The fragrance is captured in a warped, chrome bottle, a silver version of the original Cosmic Kylie packaging, which was designed to look like “art from another world,” according to the Jenner. The brand calls it “the second star in the cosmic universe,” and though the bottles share the same structure, the new finish represents a departure from the original Cosmic Kylie’s soft, organic aesthetic. In a promo video for the scent, liquid chrome crawls up Jenner’s body, enveloping her in a swirling sea of silver. Close up photos reveal mirrored gems decorating her eyes and forehead, a look that wouldn’t be out of place at an outer space themed party. But as much as Cosmic Kylie 2.0 is about escaping to a place beyond the stars, it’s also about looking inward. The bottle’s mirrored finish represents “self-reflection, personal growth, and the opportunity to show yourself love with every new day,” according to a press release. This theme comes alive in promo photos, which feature mirrored images and soft focus finishes.

Though it shares amber and vanilla notes with the original Cosmic Kylie, 2.0 is sweeter, brighter, and more floral. “Floral perfumes are very nostalgic for me,” Jenner says. “I always remember the floral perfumes my mom would wear when I was growing up. There was one very floral one specifically that she always wore. I can still smell it now—it’s definitely a core fragrance memory for me.” But it’s no one-note floral—the added punch of pear and pink pepper evokes that beloved childhood green apple shampoo,or the clear green bottle of DKNY Be Delicious. This levity is a welcome departure from the saccharine gourmands that have dominated lately. And after the initial burst of brightness, Cosmic Kylie 2.0 dries down into something soft and creamy, a touch of vanilla satiating those in search of something sweet. Overall, it’s fresh and light, a crowd-pleasing floral that plays well with others.
Jenner likes to layer it with the original Cosmic Kylie. “If I want something sweeter and brighter, I’ll spray Cosmic 2.0 over the original for a more clean, floral, and fruity scent. If I’m going for a more warm and rich scent, I’ll layer the original Cosmic over 2.0,” Jenner says. To make it last longer, Jenner applies the Kylie Skin Vanilla Body Lotion before spritzing on her perfume. “I always get a ton of compliments!”
