A bride is irritated that one of her bridesmaids wants to make alterations to the dress she chose for the wedding party.

The 26-year-old bride shared in a post on Reddit's popular Am I the A------? Forum that she loved the “aesthetics” of the “regency era” and especially the “empire waist dresses” — like the ones seen in the TV show Bridgerton or the movie Pride and Prejudice — and wanted her bridesmaids to wear dresses in the same style.

The bride said that several of her bridesmaids loved the idea, but one of them became “very mad” at her for “insisting that they wear empire waist dresses” as she argued that the type of dress did not make her look good.

“She claims that the dress looks unflattering on her due to her body proportions,” the bride said, adding that the bridesmaid told her that “due to the high waistline and her large chest” the empire waist dress made her waist appear “much larger than it actually is.”

“She told me that those dresses made her look fat and triggered insecurities,” the bride explained.

She shared that the bridesmaid asked if she could “modify her dress to define her figure,” however, the bride told her that “all the bridesmaids had to wear the same dress” and she “didn’t want her to stand out.”

“She said I was being selfish and that I wasn’t taking into account other people’s body types. I said she was acting extremely entitled, it’s my wedding and I shouldn’t have to cater to her insecurities,” the bride wrote before asking others for their opinion.

The post garnered several replies from people who both agreed and disagreed with the bride’s point of view. One person noted that while the bride had a “right to choose” the bridesmaids' dresses, “enforcing” her “aesthetic over the comfort of someone who is supposed to be your friend isn’t kind.”

Another also noted that they were on the “fence” about the situation. “On the one hand, wearing bridesmaid dresses we find ugly and unflattering is a time-honored tradition,” they noted, adding, “But it's hard to rule without more info” on “who’s paying for the dress” and “what changes” she wants. The commenter noted that the bride should at least allow the bridesmaid to make alterations if she was paying for the dress.

Another said, “I don't understand the obsession with making weddings be more focused on an aesthetic or theme for the pictures than on making the people you love comfortable on a day that's meant to be happy and celebratory. Some day down the line, you will be looking at the wedding pictures and what will matter more? The aesthetic of them or the good memories of the loved ones who were with you your whole life?”
