Canadian influencer Rini Frey says husband helped her overcome body hair insecurity: 'It was a huge deal for me'
"You deserve to be with someone who doesn't make you feel like you need to be perfect all the time or else you're not worth it." Frey said.
Rini Frey is opening up about how her husband helped her overcome one of her biggest insecurities. On Monday, the Alberta-based influencer and mom-of-two took to Instagram to discuss how being insecure of her body hair used to drive a wedge between her and her husband being intimate.
"Have you ever said to your partner, 'Mmh no, don't touch me tonight, I haven't shaved in forever'? I said this to my husband last night when he inched closer to me in bed. He said something that made that insecurity completely go away," Frey said in a carousel of images. "I didn't want him to touch me because I hadn't shaved in a week. It's an insecurity of mine because of a past relationship where I was made fun of/told it was gross if I didn't shave everywhere at all times."
A beach selfie of Frey and Shaun continued her message: "He said, 'I don't care at all if you shaved or not. To me, it's the same as when you wear a different hairstyle. You're still just as beautiful. You're just wearing your hair a different way. I really don't care.'"
The next slide featured another snap of the couple. Frey confessed, "It was the first time I was truly okay with being close to a man without having shaved. Not to be dramatic but this was a huge deal for me. I didn't flinch when he touched me. I was truly confident he was telling the truth."
Frey concluded with a casual photo of herself eating a soft pretzel, alongside a message for her followers: "I don't know why but I wanted to share this in case someone needed to hear this. You deserve to be with someone who doesn't make you feel like you need to be perfect all the time or else you're not worth it."
Captioned simply as "Conversations with Shaun," her posts received a wave of support from fans praising both Frey for her vulnerability and Shaun for his emotional intelligence.
"Shout out to Shaun! Not a lot of men have this level of understanding and emotional intelligence when it comes to women's issues," an Instagram user penned. "There is a lot of pressure on [women] to be perfect 24/7 while men can have as much body hair as they want, have any body type, etc. It's so refreshing to hear of a man who is above these ridiculous patriarchal standards."
"This post brought me to tears because I used to judge myself for not shaving or wearing makeup or not having my hair done. Now I fully embrace all of me," a fan shared. "There is so much beauty in our partners fully loving us and creating a safe space for us to break through our insecurities. Thank you for sharing your journey."
"Having an emotionally intelligent partner is such a game changer after toxic/abusive past relationships!," someone added.
"I adore this. My partner is the same way, and truthfully it's how I feel about him. I love watching our bodies age together," commented another.
Frey reflected on another insecurity of hers with her Instagram followers last month. The mom of two opened up about getting "triggered" by her kids, and the lessons she's learned because of it.
Frey admitted that while her husband doesn't normally trigger her impatience, her children do.
"When my toddler doesn't listen or when my baby doesn't stop crying and I feel triggered I get rude, frustrated, impatient, and short tempered," she shared. "I hate that I get this way. These are my worst traits. And yet, I can't seem to help it when I'm in the moment."
