Canadian influencer Sarah Nicole Landry says online body shaming has increased since Miami Swim Week: 'It's been relentless my entire existence'
The 39-year-old mother-of-four said online criticism of her body has reached its pinnacle after she made her runway debut.
Canadian influenver Sarah Nicole Landry said she's noticed an increase in online bullying following her debut at Miami Swim Week.
On Thursday, Landry posted a carousel of bikini photos of herself coupled with cruel Instagram comments.
"I’ve experienced more body shaming in this last week than I have in my entire life," the 39-year-old said in the post's caption. "But the truth is, it’s happened for me at every weight and size, and it’s been relentless my entire existence, starting when I was on a playground."
The mother-of-four continued: "What’s the point of body shaming? No really. What is it? To keep us feeling small, playing small? Too much, never enough?"
Landry said her own body journey, which included losing a significant amount of weight came with its own body criticism.
"I’ve put my body through hell to be a size 0, and I was miserable, unhealthy, crumbling," she explained. "But I would have done anything to escape the body shaming I received at a larger size. But guess what? It still happened. And guess what? Most of it came from within."
Landry doubled down on the importance of self-acceptance and not missing out on life experiences and putting online trolls in their place.
"These negative commenters are not the ones that need us. They’re not our kids or our partners or our memories. They’re not us," the Guelph, Ont.-native stressed.
Landry concluded her post with a powerful reminder: "I believe we are collectively better when we choose to not just give kindness but receive it louder than the rest. There will be many in this life that won’t like you. Don’t be one of them."
