2024 so far has belonged to sport. Whether it’s the Challengers-inspired fever, which reached fever pitch earlier this summer, or England’s male football team reaching the Euros final, there’s been no shortage of sporting activities and that it set to continue as the 2024 Paris Olympic Games gets underway this evening.

Given this year's status as the 'summer of sport;, we don't doubt that there'll be more buzz around this year's Games than ever before, particularly around this evening's opening ceremony.

And fear not, you might not be in the City of Lights, but the ceremony will be available to stream and it's shaping up to be an unmissable occasion by the sounds of things. This is everything we know so far.

Who will perform at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony?

This year's opening ceremony, which is the first to not be held in a stadium, will be held on the River Seine with boats set to carry each national delegation of athletes. It has been confirmed, after weeks of speculation, that Celine Dion and Lady Gaga will perform a duet of Édith Piaf's 'La Vie En Rose' at this evening's ceremony. This is no small feat: as was documented in her recent Prime Video documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, the Canadian-born star hasn't performed live since 2020 due to her diagnosis of Stiff Person's Syndrome.

While other performers are yet to be announced, the rumour mill has been abuzz with murmurings that Ariana Grande may also take the stage, but that has yet to be officially confirmed.

What will happen during the opening ceremony?

Alongside the performances, there will be almost 100 boats involved in the event, which will carry over 10,000 athletes and dignitaries, sailing past Paris’ landmarks.

How do I watch the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony?
