Charli D’Amelio may have only been born in 2004 (I know, what?!) but as she’s shown us in her recent Instagram story, she can defo channel the early 2000s style with ease.

Instead of the sun-kissed highlights many of us seem to have nowadays, trends are slowly rewinding things back a couple of decades.

Back in the day, millennials would rock the crimped wave, choppy bangs, and probably the most memorable style of all, hairstreaks and chunky highlights. And most recently, the latter has been creeping back into style with the latest offender being the queen of TikTok herself.

Charli has put her own take on the Y2K hair streaks with a wavy curl, which originally would have been styled pin straight. It’s giving Kelly Clarkson circa 2003, with a modern-day twist.

We like to call this trend the tiger stripe effect and if you’ve gone subtle with it, you’re probably doing it wrong.

The young social media star is no stranger to experimenting with her hair and has even set some trends of her own. Remember mid-lockdown (after the blonde money piece phase) when everyone was dying the underpart of their hair blue and purple? Yeah, we blame Charli.

However, we’re still unsure as to whether Miss D’Amelio has dyed her hair permanently or whether the contrast of platinum blonde against her natural dark brown locks are extensions.

So, hold up. Before you grab the bleach, you may want to experiment before you dye the whole thing – a vital lesson we learned by the one and only legend, Georgia Nicholson of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.
