Among the top trending nail designs of 2025, chocolate cherry nails have emerged as the minimalist mani celebs are loving for it’s deep bold color. Spotted on the likes Jennifer Lopez, Hailey Bieber, and Olivia Rodrigo, chocolate cherry is the perfect combination of rich brown and deep burgundy.
Manicurist Tom Bachik created Lopez’s stunning chocolate cherry manicure with long coffin tips. According to Bachik, the look is all about nailing the right shade. You’ll want to make sure your undertones lean more dark chocolate brown than cherry red.
“Chocolate cherry nails are not so much a burnt red as they are a deep mahogany, versus a bordeaux, which is more of a dark purple with reddish tones,” Bachik explains. “When we were picking a color, we wanted a warm winter brown with reddish tones versus a red with dark brown tones. So ‘more brown than red’ was key! We were actually inspired by a picture of a Porsche with this amazing brownish red color, and that’s what we set out for.”
Bachik adds that wintertime is the ideal season for embracing vampy nail colors. Plus, the rich tones have the ability to make you look, well, rich.
“Chocolate cherry nails are trending because it’s the perfect time of year when deep rich shades are so hot,” he says. “They’re warm and cozy and sexy. It’s a color that also works as a neutral, making it so versatile. It makes any look feel fancy, rich, and yummy. I love deep, rich colors on nails, especially when they have depth, dimension, and an accentuating undertone, making it even more special."
To get the look, Bachik starts with nail care using Tweezerman Tools. “Using my Pushy and Nail Cleaner along with my Rockhard Cuticle Nipper, cuticles are shaped and perfected. Once nails are prepped and ready for polish, we cleanse the nail and apply the base coat,” he says.
As for the color, we’re in luck: Bachik typically creates custom mixes, but he found the perfect chocolate cherry shade by Aprés Nails. “With many specialty colors, we’ll actually mix shades on the spot to achieve exactly what we’re looking for,” he says. “In this case we found that the perfect chocolate cherry color already exists—Blood Moon by Apreś. We applied two coats, then added a high gloss shine with top coat and finished it all off by rehydrating cuticles and skin, and she was ready to go.”
