Christina Ricci Claims Ex-Husband Wouldn't Help 'At All' When Son Was a Baby: 'Doing It All on My Own'

The actress shares son Freddie with ex James Heerdegen and is also mom to daughter Cleopatra

Christina Ricci is reflecting on a difficult time she went through with her son.

The Yellowjackets star, 44, appeared on this week's episode of Shannen Doherty's Let's Be Clear podcast, claiming that her son Freddie, 9, wasn't sleep-trained as a baby because her husband at the time, James Heerdegen, wouldn't help her when she returned to work.

"My husband at the time wouldn't help me with anything at all," Ricci claimed on the podcast. "I had to do all the night stuff and get up and go to work for 14 hours and be on camera."

"So, the only way to do that was to lie with him, and he would breastfeed whenever he wanted and sleep with me. I had to have him in my bed with me just to get enough sleep and be able to work the next day."

"I was basically doing it all on my own, so that part is tough, but you just get through it," Ricci continued. "You just keep going. I repeat to myself all the time, 'It's temporary.'"

A rep for Heerdegen did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Ricci admitted that her time away from her daughter Cleopatra, 2, whom she shares with husband Mark Hampton, while filming Yellowjackets affected her relationship with her little girl.

"Last year I was commuting back and forth to Vancouver for Yellowjackets. She didn't know me. We had no bond. So that was very upsetting," Ricci said.

"My kids do not like it when I travel. When I'm away, I try to take my son with me as much as I can," she said, adding that it can get expensive when taking work trips with her whole family.

"If you're a series regular, you have to pay for everything, so I can't... every time I go up and down, I can't pay for four people, four flights, you know, and the rooms that you would need and all...it's just too expensive to travel with everybody all the time," she added.
