With Christmas now less than two weeks away, many people are on the hunt for the season's must-have toys to gift to the kids in their lives. With countless options, from classics to new gadgets, narrowing down the best last-minute gifts for kids in 2024 (and where to get them) can be overwhelming. To make gift ideas easier, Yahoo Canada asked retail experts to share this year's popular toys, from trending picks like Cookeez Makery to timeless picks like LEGO.

"This year’s top toy trends are all about extending play in new ways — and they’re fun for kids and adults alike," says Hilary Wingate, Walmart's senior director of toys. "The season’s standout toys are extremely hands-on and interactive, with exceptional play value built in."

Wingate says that interactive toys are bringing a lot of magic to the season — "whether you're seeing the expression change on a Thready Bear or seeing dough turn into a plush with the Cookeez Makery Freezy Cakez Playset."

She also adds that toys like the Yummiland Lip Gloss Truck and Pixie Cruiser Doodle Customizable Remote Control Car add a customizable experience.

Toymakers are pulling out all the stops this year, delivering products that spark creativity and bring a sense of wonder to every play session, says Tammy Smitham, Spin Master's VP of global communications.

“Our holiday lineup is a celebration of imagination, innovation, and pure joy, with toys that defy gravity, magical creatures that come to life with the love from a child, and beloved characters for kids to engage with through play," Smitham says.

Classic toys like LEGO are also always popular — thanks to their ability to spark imagination for kids (and adults!) and gaming is once again set to be one of the hottest gift categories, with exciting options for every type of player.

According to Gillian Martin, category director at Best Buy, the PS5 console is expected to be a top seller again this year, but there are other popular contenders like Nintendo Switch.
