Former Dance Moms star and current teen Youtube sensation Jojo Siwa is more than just a performer — she's a full-blown brand. From her signature bows to her makeup collection, her named-branded products sell off the shelves and into the hands of her young fans. But recently, the makeup palette she was selling in partnership with Claire’s accessory stores has been pulled from the shelves. According to a warning issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on June 6, Siwa's makeup palette was officially recalled due to the presence of asbestos.

Today, almost two weeks after the initial announcement, Jojo released a video commenting on the situation, and ensuring her countless tween fans that "safety is [herself] and Nickelodeon's number one priority in everything."

Claire’s JoJo Siwa Makeup Set (Batch/Lot No. S180109) , which contains eyeshadow, two lip glosses, and nail polish, has been added as an update to the original list of Claire’s makeup products that the FDA tested positive for tremolite asbestos back in March 2019. The store voluntarily pulled the makeup kits from the shelves to protect buyers safety.

"Claire’s Stores, Inc. voluntarily recalled the JoJo Cosmetic Kit out of an abundance of caution after testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration indicated the possible presence of trace amounts of asbestos fibers in the powder eyeshadow element of the kit," the company said in a statement. "Claire’s stands behind the safety of this item and all other Claire’s cosmetic items, as such small trace amounts are considered acceptable under European and Canadian cosmetic safety regulations. We will provide a full refund to any customers who purchased the product."

Jojo's video message, which was released on her popular Youtube channel, apologized for the situation and reiterated how important safety is to both Jojo and her Nickolodeon brand. "This product is something that, with a lot of things, that I put my trust into other people’s hands," Jojo explained. "We are working really, really hard to make sure that this product is recalled and off all shelves,” she continued. “And also that anyone who has this product, you can get a refund… If it’s used or it’s unused, you can get a full refund.”

She goes on to thank her fanbase for understanding and taking the situation seriously, "I hope you understand and I thank you for understanding, because it is serious to me, and it means a lot to me. ‘Cause it is my name, and it is my brand, and it is my face — quite literally.”

Last year, Claire's vowed to switch to talc-free manufacturing for all its cosmetics to prevent further concerns about talc contamination, after several of its own products were voluntarily recalled for the same reason. Claire’s also supports increased FDA oversight of personal care products.
