Coming soon: A new NoDa gathering spot will take the place of Pepperbox in Charlotte
As Pepperbox Doughnuts officially closed its NoDa location on May 31, the NoDa space is poised to shed its old skin and welcome a new project: Copperhead Social Club.
“Our lease is not expiring,” co-owner Alex Beebe told CharlotteFive.
Copperhead Social Club, one of Beebe’s concepts, will not operate under Pepperbox, although another one of Pepperbox’s partners is involved.
Pepperbox hinted at a new concept for the space in its recent closing announcement via Instagram: “The end of an era has come, as we will be closing our NoDa location on May 31st. We are so grateful for the memories and friends made at this location, and the support we have received from our friends here in NoDa.”
“While this chapter closes for Pepperbox, we are SO excited for what’s coming next to this space … and we think you all will be too,” the doughnut shop’s ownership posted.

“We will be releasing details of the concept very soon and will be encouraging people to follow along for updates on social media @Copperheadsocialclub,” Beebe said.
Ultimately, Pepperbox’s closing was reliant on high overhead costs, causing the doughnut shop to operate “at a loss for most of our time there,” Beebe said.
“As our South End location was still doing well, we decided that the losses we incurred at our NoDa location were overall not healthy for the company as a whole,” Beebe said.
However, Beebe maintains “The Pepperbox brand in the grand scheme of things is doing very well. We have weathered so much over the past few years dealing with closures, high inflation, etc, (as has everyone else) and we feel that consolidating our company back to one location is the final key to getting back on stable footing.”

For Pepperbox, Beebe said, “There is nothing in the pipeline at the moment.” But, continuing to expand its brand and serve wider audiences is still the doughnut shop’s larger goal, which could include opening new stores and expanding to other towns and cities.
“Once we get our heads back on straight after dealing with the changes happening now, we will look to the future again,” Beebe said.
