Is Costco open or closed on New Year’s Day 2025? Here's what to know

New Year's Day is here as millions of Americans celebrate the arrival of the new year with loved ones.

If you're looking to start off the new year with some shopping or by eating at your favorite restaurant, most grocery, retail, and restaurant chains will be open on New Year's Day, albeit with adjusted hours. Most were also open on New Year's Eve.

However, the same will not be true for Costco on New Year's Day. Costco stores will be closed on Jan. 1, according to the company's website.

On New Year's Eve, the company's warehouses were open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What retail stores are open on New Year's Day?

The following retail stores will be open on New Year's Day. Hours are listed for the companies that provided them.

  • Walmart; 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  • Target

  • Kohls; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • TJ Maxx; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Marshall's; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • HomeGoods; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • JCPenney; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Nordstrom; Most stores open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Home Depot; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Lowe's; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Ace Hardware (hours vary by location)

  • REI; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Bass Pro Shop; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Cabela's; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Burlington; Stores close at 10 p.m.

  • Belk; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Big Lots; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Food Lion

  • Publix; Select stores close at 7 p.m. while most others close at 8 p.m.

  • Meijer; 6 a.m. to midnight

  • Whole Foods; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Harris Teeter (but pharmacies will be closed)
