Costco Recalls Cold and Flu Medicine Over Contamination
Costco recalled a Kirkland Signature brand cold and flu medication due to potential contamination.
Kirkland Signature Severe Cold & Flu Plus Congestion capsules were affected.
The contaminated capsules were accidentally released after they were rejected for potentially containing foreign matter.
If you’re one of many hit by the ongoing cold and flu surge, double-check the medicine you broke open in a feverish state. On January 2, Costco recalled its Kirkland Signature brand Severe Cold & Flu Plus Congestion capsules due to potential contamination.
The pills were marketed as a “Cool Breeze” variant and contained both daytime and nighttime capsules. The recall said the packages bear item number 1729556 and would have been purchased between October 30, 2024 and November 30, 2024. The lot code printed on the back of the affected boxes is P140082.
The Costco recall advises consumers not to use any medication printed with the above identifiers and to return the item(s) to Costco for a full refund. If you have questions or concerns about the recall, you can contact LNK International at 1-800-426-9391 or email inquiries@lnkintl.com.
Pharmaceutical manufacturer LNK International, Inc., made the recall “out of an abundance of caution” when it was discovered that a lot of contaminated medication was “accidentally” released and shipped after it was rejected for potential foreign material contamination.
With so many recalls happening right now, this one is particularly concerning given the ongoing virus boom across the country that’s typical of this time of year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), respiratory illness causing people to seek healthcare is currently high. Viruses that are a part of the spike include COVID-19, influenza, and RSV.
If you think you may have a respiratory virus and exhibit symptoms like fever, chills, fatigue, cough, and runny nose, the CDC recommends staying home and away from others, washing your hands properly, and sanitizing frequently touched surfaces. Depending on the type of respiratory illness you have, you should be able to hasten recovery with proper vaccination, rest, hydration, non-recalled cold medication, and if you need, you can talk to your doctor about anti-viral prescription drugs.
