Surprise wedding at baby shower
  • Audrianna Som and Chanra Klung invited more than 100 people to their baby shower on July 28 in New Hampshire

  • But the baby shower was actually a surprise wedding!

  • Two months after the nuptials, the newlyweds welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Kisai Emery Klung

When a baby shower turned into a surprise wedding, everyone's jaws dropped.

Audrianna Som, 24, and Chanra Klung, 25, have always been a "spontaneous" couple, so it was fitting that their wedding would be too. After the "biggest pranksters" went shopping for prenatal vitamins following Som's positive pregnancy test on Jan. 12, the idea of having a surprise wedding at their baby shower was born.

"We were so ecstatic. After coming back from the store, we were in the car just discussing details on how we would tell our family. We were so happy and got lost talking about our future," Som tells PEOPLE. "I briefly brought up the idea, 'What if we had a surprise wedding at our baby shower?'"

To her surprise, Klung was game.

"My fiancé's face lit up with excitement," she recalls. "I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction and he literally said, 'Let's do it, that would be crazy.' Then a few minutes [later] we were planning how we would do it, practicing our speech and from then on we were locked into that plan."

When more than 100 guests arrived at The Event Center at Hampshire Hills in Milford, New Hampshire, on July 28, they immediately recognized it as a baby shower because Som and Klung were dressed head to toe in blue, as they were expecting a baby boy.

"Having a surprise wedding was just something we would do but no one suspected a thing," the bride says, adding, "Why go through the hassle of planning and stressing when everyone would be here to celebrate the life of my future baby?"

The couple — who met as teenagers in high school, started dating toward the end of 2016 and got engaged in Iceland in December 2022 — only told the woman they toured the venue with in April of the surprise in store.

"It was such an emotional day. I was so anxious and nervous for the days coming up and that entire day itself," Som says. "We practiced our speech a million times and I still get goosebumps listening back to it. No one had a clue what was going to happen."

She continues, "As soon as the words 'this is also our wedding' left my husband’s mouth, everyone was in shock."

A video posted by Som on TikTok captures moments from the emotional outdoor wedding. "We were originally just going to elope but what better way to have everyone be there without the stress of actually planning a wedding lol. best decision ever!!!! 🩵🩵🩵," its caption reads.

"Shortly after the speech, all our family members came running down to us sobbing uncontrollably," the bride tells PEOPLE. "It wasn't until we saw them come to us, seeing them crying and hugging us, that we started to get emotional."

But the happy tears didn't stop there. They continued to flow as Som, after quickly changing into her wedding dress, walked down the aisle with her father.

All of the guests had come together to set up the ceremony. The chairs weren't initially in rows on the field because the couple feared it would give away the surprise. Luckily, everyone was more than happy to help.

"It was just the most perfect day ever," Som says. "The best part was the event started at 2 p.m. and ended at 8 p.m. Me being pregnant, not wanting to socialize, my feet killing me [made] leaving the venue at 8 p.m. perfect."

After the celebration, Som and Klung got takeout from their favorite Chinese restaurant.

"We grabbed our food, mind you we are still in our outfits, eating in the kitchen, laughing and recapping our day," Som says. "Went to bed before 10 p.m. and just ended the night in the best way possible."

Two months later, the newlyweds welcomed their first child together, the "most perfect" and "beautiful" baby boy named Kisai Emery Klung.

"During our baby shower, we were spoiled with so many gifts for him," the new mom tells PEOPLE. "Once people found out it was also our wedding, they donated and Venmoed us money. After all the gifts and money, we basically broke even and it was the smartest thing we could've done financially."
