Couple Surprises Grandma, 76, with Scratch-Off Lottery Ticket — but the Results Are Far from What She Expected (Exclusive)

After years of asking Sarah and Kevin King for a great-grandchild, “Granny” Rose Bell finally got her wish. In a now-viral TikTok, Sarah showcases the pure joy painted on her Rose's face as the big news is revealed in a creative way.

Sarah and Kevin had been together for eight years, married for four, when they got pregnant and shared the news with Rose, who’s 76 years old. “She has been asking us for years and we’re like, ‘Wait til we get married,’ ” Sarah shares exclusively with PEOPLE. “We got married and then she was like, ‘All right, you said when you were married … come on!’ ”

The couple chose a creative way to break the news. Noting Rose’s love for scratch-off lottery tickets, the Kings presented her with a special pregnancy announcement scratch-off, capturing her reaction to the reveal on camera. Rose’s face lit up as she realized the meaning behind the message, and then she immediately went into prayer, thanking God for her wish coming true.

For Sarah, this moment was particularly important. Having lost her own grandmother, she found a bonus grandma in Kevin’s family matriarch. “It’s a blessing,” Sarah shares, reflecting on the joy of giving Rose this news after years of anticipation. “I know that it’s about her legacy.”

Sarah and Kevin took a thoughtful approach to sharing their pregnancy news, waiting until after their first big doctor's appointment. However, before they confirmed the news, Rose already guessed they were expecting, saying, “There’s a baby in there,” as she pointed to Sarah’s belly one day.

Now that their son has arrived, Rose continues to be a source of wisdom and support. Her advice centers on faith, with Sarah sharing, “She always tells me if you don’t do anything else, make sure you show him Christ. Show him who God is.”
