Nowadays, asking your girlfriend’s father for her hand in marriage before your engagement is… a little old-fashioned, perhaps.

But the father of Nevada local Allison Barron clearly didn’t feel that way after he responded to her engagement in a hilarious fashion.

Levi Bliss, Barron’s now-fiancé, popped the question in the local countryside.

Barron said she started crying when Bliss went down on one knee, but immediately cracked up when she spotted her dad on a nearby hill — holding a sign that read “SAY NO.”

As well as some perfect engagement photos, the couple now have snaps of her dad’s protest too.

Luckily, he was joking, and the prank went down pretty well.

“We both know my dad so well, we got the joke right away and found it funny,” Barron told Buzzfeed.

She explained that her fiancé and her father, Jake Barron, are “very close.”

“We have gone on many trips all together and they have hung out just the two of them before too, playing tennis, riding dirt bikes, and other activities,” she said.

“This is really just my dad’s personality,” she added.

Barron decided to share the moment on Twitter, but couldn’t have been prepared for what a hit it’d be.

Her post has received more than 60,000 retweets and 200,000 likes.

It’s also inspired other Twitter users to respond with dad-like jokes of their own, and Jake has himself been turned into a bit of a meme.

Of course, it’s all fun and games until the wedding speech rolls around.
