But is that move really a surprise?

It's only been a few months since Demi Lovato announced that she was engaged to Max Ehrich, but she's offering up even more news about her upcoming wedding, including the possibility of skipping a huge I-do to-do altogether and eloping.

Of course, the pandemic has wedding planning going in a different direction than normal, but Lovato revealed that she's deep in it, including picking a dress. She mentioned the allure of an elopement, having lived so much of her life in the public. It would be special, she noted, to have something just for her and Ehrich.

"I have started looking at dresses," Lovato said during an interview with PopCrush Nights. "But the thing is with the pandemic, it’s like on one hand, I would love to elope because my life is so public and I want to keep it sacred between me and him."

The bride-to-be saw it from the other side, too, however. She added that an elopement would exclude her friends and family, which adds another complication to everything. Oh, she also tossed in a huge hint about that dress, too — namely, it won't be white.

"On the other hand, I want my friends and family to be there for a celebration, but I can't do that until the pandemic's over because it's not safe, so it's like, what do we? Do we [elope] in the meantime and then do [a big wedding ceremony] later?" she said. "It's all this planning. But I have my image for what I would want it to be if I got to do a big celebration, and I don't want to give it away, but it's definitely not a white dress."

In true Lovato style, it looks like she's bucking tradition and doing things her own way. Until she figures it out, fans will have to keep guessing how she'll celebrate her big day. According to People, a wedding wasn't part of Lovato's plans for 2020, but thanks to quarantine and a comeback record being put on hold, she's had time for other things.

"I was set to have my comeback this year after being out of the spotlight for a while. And things didn't really go according to plan, but like I said, everything is about timing," Lovato told the magazine. "We were able to share this time together that we wouldn't have normally gotten to spend. And that accelerated our relationship on a level that you can't really explain to people, but quarantine either makes or breaks the deal. And it really made that. So I'm really blessed, really fortunate, and continuing to count my blessings every day."
