Denim dresses are definitely having a moment this spring, with high street options selling out at record speed. However, no one is doing it quite like M&S, who have brought out a huge range of denim dress styles due to demand. Back in February, a rather simple denim dress quickly became the star of their spring 2024 collection, rising to become the number two bestseller across the entire online womenswear range and selling out within days.
What drew me to M&S's latest column denim dress is that it looks super expensive, but costs just £49.50. It's one of those great pieces that's flattering, comfortable (no matter how much you eat and drink) and can easily be dressed up and down.
This form-flattering dress is the best £50 I've ever spent.
Plus, thanks to the denim fabric, I plan to wear this year-round, from summer through to winter, so I know it will get great cost per wear.

Firstly, you would think a denim dress in a fitted style like this would be stiff and unforgiving. That's not the case at all - it's surprisingly soft, stretchy and comfortable to walk and sit down in without digging in or bunching up. The cleverly designed ruched side detailing is also super flattering, it really nips in your waist but isn't skin-tight.
As I have a larger bust, I appreciate how high the neckline is, it allow me to wear any type of bra without the straps showing. There's an easy-to-reach zip closure up the back with an interior button for added security, and the midi length means I can wear concealed shapewear shorts underneath if I want a smoother silhouette.

The skirt section is stretchy too, so it curves around your legs but doesn't restrict movement. I've been wearing it with a brightly coloured handbag for contrast and a blazer in the evenings. I can't wait for warmer weather so I can wear it on its own with sandals
It's available in sizes six to 20 in M&S' petite and long ranges, as well as six to 24 in its regular line, with a handful of sizes sold out already. So, I'd add it to your basket ASAP.
✋ Reasons to avoid
My only gripe with this dress is the sizing is a little off. Typically I find M&S clothes fit true to size - I'm a 12 or medium depending on the item - but when I ordered my regular size the arms were gaping and looked loose.
I exchanged it for a size 10 and found it fitted perfectly, so it wasn't a bother, but definitely something to keep in mind if you're going to buy it.
